What is an Allergy?

An allergy can be either an immune system reaction or abnormal sensitivity to a particular substance. The allergen is the specific substance causing or triggering the allergic reaction. Some of the more widespread and common allergens are plant pollen, dust, pet dander, mold, food, chemicals, and drugs. When exposed to an allergen your immune system makes an antibody, called IgE. That specific IgE antibody can be the cause of your allergy symptoms. The sneezing, itching, nasal irritation are common conditions, but eczema, asthma, migraines, weight gain and a host of other symptoms are related to allergies. See the table below to learn more about symptoms, testing, and treatment options to eliminate suffering and allergic reactions.

The Difference In True Allergy and Food Intolerance/Sensitivity

True food allergies (IgE) have drastically different symptoms, testing and treatment solutions than food intolerance / sensitivities (IgG) reactions. Runny noses and sneezing are symptoms most commonly associated with IgE allergies, but fatigue, eating disorders, and migraines can be IgG symptoms that are also an allergic reaction. The ALCAT allergy test identifies your (IgG) food sensitivities and intolerances.

IgE allergies have an immediate response to an allergen entering the body, whereas IgG allergies have a delayed reaction and onset of symptoms. An example of an IgE reaction would be a person that is allergic to peanuts eats a food mixed with peanut butter. Their body would have an immediate reaction, and begin making IgE antibodies to fight off the infection of the peanut allergen.

An example of an IgG allergy would be a person consuming a mushroom pizza, then 2 days later has a bad migraine and becomes fatigued. With IgG allergies, several hours or days may pass before the symptoms appear, which is the reason many allergies go untreated and unknown. IgG allergies pose serious health risks because these reactions lead to a weakening of your immune system.

Both IgE and IgG allergies are serious conditions. You should get tested and treated by an allergist if you experience any of the symptoms in the below table.

Through extensive allergy testing, our allergist and physicians will identify the source of your reaction, and a solution to treat and eliminate all allergies.

If you suffer any of the symptoms, our medical team will conduct allergy tests to pinpoint the source of your allergic symptoms. The tests used to identify environmental, food intolerances, and chemical sensitivities are below:

Skin / Scratch Test –

aSkinTestDeviceThe most common and “gold standard” test for diagnosing allergies is a skin test. Tiny pricks are made on the surface of your back, and each prick contains a small amount of common allergens. If you are allergic, a small bump or reaction will appear on your skin. It’s a simple and painless technique that within 15 minutes allows your doctor to identify exactly the airborne or environmental irritants that are causing your reactions.

ALCAT Food Sensitivity & Intolerance Tests –

This blood test yields a comprehensive read-out of hundreds of food sensitivities, gluten, yeast, oral drugs, medications, and other environmental chemicals that your body cannot break down. Within 5-14 days you’ll know exactly what’s responsible for your symptoms, and our allergist can plan the proper treatment for instant allergy relief.

Patch Test –

Chemical Patch Allergy TestingThe allergen patch test identifies contact substances that cause skin reactions and inflammation. Around 50 common allergens are applied to patches and then placed on your skin. For 48 hours you wear the patches on your arm or back, and will avoid activities that cause heavy perspiration. Your physician will remove and analyze the patches upon your return visit.

Once your sensitivity or intolerance is identified, we will determine the correlating treatment to eliminate the allergen and related toxins from your body.

Once our allergist knows the allergen(s) responsible for your symptoms, we can provide immediate relief. Our treatment plans are specific to your condition and will eliminate future suffering. Below are common allergy, sensitivity, and intolerance solutions.

Airborne Allergy Treatment –

Allergy Shots, also referred to as Immunotherapy, are the most common treatment for grass, weed, and pollen type allergies. Very small doses of the allergen are injected under your skin. This process allows your immune system to build a resistance to the respective allergen. This treatment results in fewer and less severe allergic reactions and symptoms. Immunotherpy is usually recommended for people who suffer from allergy symptoms more than 3 months out of the year.

Food Allergy Treatment –

When the ALCAT and other food sensitivity tests prove your intolerance(s), you must abstain and deny your body these substances. Whether the allergen is dietary or an environmental substance, your allergist will help you avoid these allergens. If a chemical within a medication is found to be problematic, the physician can identify an alternative drug that satisfies your medical requirements.

Chemical Allergy Treatment –

The obvious solution for chemical allergies is to eliminate antigens and remove yourself from making contact with these chemicals. Most likely you exchange these contact allergens in your workplace or other public locations. Your allergist will help identify these environments and avoid future contact.

Every case is different, but with an allergy test and the proper treatment, your health and quality of life will Improve dramatically.

Why it’s Important to Have An Allergy Test

Allergies affect most people in one way or another. You may have developed a rash after using a certain type of detergent or have a sneezing fit when the pollen comes out in the Spring. The factors that create your symptoms can range from the toxic substances that are in your food, to the chemicals in your make-up, or the high count of pollen or ragweed in the air. Chemical, Airborne and Environmental allergies can be discovered with our comprehensive allergy testing. After our allergist discovers the “triggers” behind your symptoms, our team creates a personalized treatment plan so you can start living your life again.

Allergy Testing and the Proper Treatment Will Improve Your Quality of Life

Over 50 million Americans test positive to one or more food, airborne, or chemical allergens. Many are unaware they suffer from allergic conditions. The symptoms can be subversive, affecting your quality of life, job performance, and even self-esteem.

We believe “More Drugs Are NOT the Answer”. Most health insurance providers see this treatment as preventative, which allows everyone to save on costs associated with alternative over-the-counter and prescription medication. IPOA’s physician ran an environmental scratch test and drew her blood to see if she was sensitive to certain chemicals found in chicken. My daughter tested positive on the scratch test. She tested 36 out of 50 on the top geographical environmental molds in Georgia. She also tested to be highly sensitive to chicken, particularly the antibiotics that are used on farms that raise chickens. She started her allergy shots and refraining from those foods that contained that specific antibiotic. She is feeling so much better and now she is enjoying being a kid again."

"I called Integrative Physicians of Atlanta because I thought I was allergic to molds or something in the environment. I had constant itchy eyes and throat, along with post nasal drip. I have been absent from work due to these problems. I was also suffering from blotchiness on my face and hands. I thought that I might be allergic to something from my job at the hair salon. They tested me for molds and airborne allergies. I tested positive, so they put me on immunotherapy to help control the symptoms. They performed a scratch test for my skin issues. The results showed that I was sensitive to certain dyes that I use regularly for clients hair in the salon. After 3 months I am feeling great and my skin cleared up. I am now using different products at work."
